The Gold Tips

We're lucky in these parts to have some cracking live bands on the funk and soul scene.

And here's a 'Tip' for you... Superfly advises you to check out the latest on the Northern Ireland production line.
The Gold Tips are the band in question and those lucky enough to have caught them live since making their debut performance last year will already be aware of this blistering band.
That first live outing - at the Duke of York as part of the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival - has since been followed by equally impressive gigs at the Ulster Sports Club and a prized invitation to Portrush for the Open Golf festivities.
Plans for the Gold Tips were first hatched around four years ago as founding member Eamon McNamee explains.
"I had been in a previous band where the emphasis was more on rock n roll.
"I had always been a big fan of the Stax label output and the Kent label reissues.
"Also Rick Hall of Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals.
With a crystal clear image in mind, Eamonn set about finding the right musicians to fit in with his philosophy (and didn't he come up trumps!).
"I wanted to try and bring that Southern soul swagger to my music" , he continues.
When it came to song writing, Eamonn had three main influences he wanted to try and incorporate into the group.
Anyone who has heard the Gold Tips live or heard their single releases (check out Spotify, Itunes and usual streaming services) can clearly see they channel the effortless class of Sam Cooke, the power of Otis Redding and sensitivity of Solomon Burke.
Check out our singles section for a review of their latest release.
The group has been to Attica Studios in Donegal to record an album, with the session finished in Belfast's Start Together Studios.
And even though we are still in Lockdown mode, The Gold Tips are already making plans for the future.
"We hope to get the album released digitally and, more importantly, on vinyl.
"And if things work out we have a small UK tour lined up."
A nine piece band playing stomping soul music.
What we wouldn't give to witness that right now!
Superfly wishes the Gold Tips (the Gold Tips.com) all the best for the future.
Somehow we think they will be just fine!
